Asian Bacterial Bank (ABB)

ABB, the first clinical microorganism collection center in the Asian region, is one of key elements in the APFID.

ABB was established in June 1999 and has been collecting the clinical isolates of bacterial pathogens from ANSORP investigators in Asia since then. As of 2019, more than 60,000 isolates of important bacterial pathogens collected from 14 countries have been preserved.

ABB observes the UN Model Regulations, the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations, the WHO Laboratory Biosafety Manual and other applicable regulations. According to those international regulations, ABB distributes the collected bacterial isolates to investigators in the world. ABB serves the improvement of basic research of microbiology, infectious diseases, and antimicrobial resistances in Asia.
